Marcus Hartwell

Managing Partner

CPA · MS Taxation, University of Denver

Marcus leads the firm's tax practice and its CFO advisory engagements. Before co-founding Hartwell & Rowe in 2012, he spent nine years at a national firm, where he decided that small businesses were getting big-firm bills for small slices of attention — and that the model deserved to be inverted.

He works primarily with businesses in the $2M–$20M range on entity strategy, transactions, and exits. Away from the office he's a decent fly fisherman and an unrepentant spreadsheet user in his fantasy football league.

Elena Rowe

Partner, Accounting Services

CPA · Advanced QuickBooks ProAdvisor

Elena built and runs the firm's bookkeeping and payroll practice — the monthly engine behind more than 300 client businesses. Her team's standard is simple: books closed by the tenth business day, reconciled to the penny, explained in English.

She's the partner clients call when the back office stops scaling: new systems, first controllers, process cleanup after fast growth. She teaches a small-business finance workshop at the Denver Metro SBDC twice a year.

David Okafor

Senior Tax Manager

CPA · Enrolled Agent

David manages the firm's IRS representation practice and its most complex multi-state returns. A former IRS revenue agent, he spent five years on the other side of the table — experience that shapes how the firm prepares for examinations: assume scrutiny, document everything, and never let a client walk into a meeting unprepared.

He handles audit defense, penalty abatement, and the catch-up cases nobody else wants to touch, and considers a closed case with zero adjustment a form of art.
